my cousin is giving her kids tylenol pm @ night, i know this is not safe. Is this considered child abuse? She tells them it is there vitamins to make them strong. The oldest one looked at some that his nana had and said " yeah that is my vitamin".

reddevilbloodymary replied: "Every night? Yes, that is drug abuse in my opinion. Tylenol isn't meant to be taken every day/night. Besides, her kids will never learn to fall asleep on their own. I say you report her."

Milkman replied: "it's her kids man not yours"

Slowhand replied: "Its not the Tylenol I'm concerned about but the Benedryl that is in it. She is using the side effects to knock them out at night. Someone needs to report her to Children Services before she OD's one of them."

llama replied: "the main ingredient is acetaminophen. Individuals that have overdosed on acetaminophen, in general, have no specific symptoms for the first 24 hours. Although nausea, vomiting, and diaphoresis may occur initially, these symptoms, in general, resolve after several hours. If a toxic dose was absorbed, after an asymptomatic period the individual develops overt liver failure. In massive overdoses, coma and metabolic acidosis may occur prior to hepatic failure. this medicine is only used to temporary stop inflammation...its made for people with arthritis. and adding a sleeping to that makes it worse for kids. have u ever noticed how there arent any sleeping pills for kids? its too strong for them. this necessary wouldnt be drug abuse if she doesnt do it everyday. if they have symptoms, then dnt tell..but in this case. YOU GO REPORT HER NOW. BUT FIRST TELL HER ABOUT WHAT YOU ARE GOING TO DO IF SHE DOESNT STOP. she should atleast be warned."

HeythereSami. replied: "I don't think it's abuse but it is bad. I think they need to learn how to fall asleep on their own."

connie o replied: "This is abuse. Drug abuse. CPS needs to get involved"

Who me? Im innocent!!!! replied: "yes. they dont need med like that unless they are sick. my best friends was doing that with her 2 kids. guess where they are now. dad has custody and she is living on her own druging herself now."

J replied: "If your cousin is doing this, try talking to her about it first. She may simply not realize that what she is doing is ethically wrong. It might be considered a case of child abuse, but it would be a mild one if that. The ingredients in Tylenol PM are relatively harmless and non-habit forming - that's why it's recommended to pregnant women to help them sleep. I wouldn't whistle blow on the woman though if that situation with the kid's nana is the only evidence I've witnessed of her doing that with her kids. He might take a similar looking pill or (if really young) thought every pill is a vitamin. Shoot, maybe the kid just doesn't sleep at night/sleeps restlessly and that's the only way she can make sure he gets a good night's sleep. Regardless, there are safer methods available that she may not be aware of. Chammomile or Sleepy Time tea, warm milk, Calms Forte (a homeopathic sleep remedy in pill form), the scent of vanilla and lavender, Johnson's Bedtime Bath collection, and the list goes on. Try suggesting these to her if she is indeed having trouble getting her kids to sleep and see what happens."

Zabes replied: "You mean she gives it to them so they sleep or do they need it? That's not right."

J-Rodriguez replied: "Yes, that is child endangerment--they could easily overdose and die. Report it for their safety!"

bob v replied: "addictive. they would be better off with a warm bath and a cup of cooco. << hot choalate."

mamabear replied: "I would let her know their are other options. I have a son who is 6 and has ADHD, he has problems going to sleep. My dr. told me to give him melatonin, it is a natural calming/sleeping aid. You should never give your child medicating that hasn't been approved by their pediatrician."

rachel (I got a new avitar lol) replied: "Tylenol is a pain killer and too much is bad for the kidneys. And the fact she lies about it shows that she knows it is wrong"

Dorian replied: "Yes, this is abuse and dangerous. Tylenol is an anti-inflamatory and in large doses (even spread out over time) can cause kidney damage. Call CPS and make a report. The link below will tell you how. You won't be doing it to be mean, the mother may not know any better, but they can educate her."

Is it safe to take Tylenol PM while Pregnant? I just found out I'm pregnant this weekend. I'd estimate I'm about 4 weeks or so. It took forever for me to fall asleep and actually stay asleep... I must say the neighborhood fireworks wasn't helping! Anyway I didn't know if it would harm the baby so early in the game here. Yes... I know... ask my doctor. I've got to call today to try and find one! But between now and the first appointment... I'd like some advice. This is my first child. Thanks!

newfiegurlie replied: "Tylenol is the only drug that is 'safe' during pregnancy, but I don't think that includes "PM". What's in Tylenol PM? Yes, you should ask a dr. Soon enough honey you'll be feeling that pregnancy fatigue and you'll have no trouble getting some sleep. In fact, you'll be the opposite. Trying to stay awake and alive enough to function, lol :) Good luck and congrats. Stay off the PM until dr oks it. Regular Tylenol is fine."

Sarah replied: "Yes. (my doc said it wouldn't harm the baby) I find it works really well since you can't really have a lot of things to help with ansomnia unless okay's by your doc. Also if you are waiting to talk to your doc just to confirm, try this: 1 cup milk 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 2 tablespoons white sugar 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg In a large mug, stir together the milk, vanilla and sugar. Heat in the microwave on full power for 1 minute and 30 seconds. Stir in nutmeg, and serve hot. Good luck!"

Lia replied: "Well... Tylenol PM? Im not sure if thats safe to take but like you said... You already know "call your doctor". But if i was you i would wait just to be on the safe side."

Bee replied: "It varies between doctors, but I've always heard from my doctors that the only medication to take safely on your own when pregnant was regular Tylenol/acetominophen. That is all I trusted. Even when I was prescribed medications for allergies while I was pregnant, I didn't take it. A doc will prescribe something other than acetominophen if they feel the benefits outweigh the risks. Sometimes they do. Without doc approval, though, I would try to stick with the safe one - Tylenol. Good luck and I hope you feel better."

Martini5 replied: "Tylenol PM is a drag for u to fall a sleep, and u can't take that wile u pregnant.....not good for the baby, no matter how many weeks r u. U can only take a regular Tylenol, doctors will tell u that's the only thing u can take when u pregnant. He told me same thing. Don't forget u can't take anything that has aspirin., Tylenol PM has that and a lot~!!!"

irish girl replied: "there are certain meds that are ok to take while pregnant. but you are better off checking with your doc or any doc for that matter before taking anything. maybe your doc can give you a list of what's safe over the counter so you only have to ask them once. good luck with the baby,."

10-T3 replied: "YOU GOT IT RIGHT . FIND A DOCTOR , AND ASK HIM."

hazeleyedbeauty1967 replied: "If you have a Bath and Body Works in your area, get the aromatherapy spray that is called Relax. It has a blend of eucalyptus, rosemary, spearmint and peppermint. If I have trouble falling asleep I spray it on my pillow and I'm out like a light. No side effects, either. Good luck with your baby! :)"

Question about Tylenol PM!!!? Okay hi, im 13 and i have to go to school tomorrow i drank 2 Tylenol PM pills so i can go to sleep early, i drank them at 6:30 how long untill they start working, and will i be able to wake up at 6 in the morning??? On the Back it says, 500mg Pain killer medication and 25mg sleeping medication. i drank 2 pills because on the back it said children 12 years and older drink 2 pills but no more, but thats for when there sick im not sick i just drank them so i can sleep early and wake up early!

benthic_man replied: "You'll be able to wake up, but you took a good dose. Be prepared to be groggy for the first hour or so after you wake up."

davelennv replied: "The active ingrident in tylenol pm, that makes you sleep is benadryl You basically took 50 mgs of Benadryl, which does make you sleepy. It should take approx. 30 minutes to begin working and well work for several hours. You should be able to sleep throughout the night with no problems."

Poppy replied: "~ Hi ~ ! You will be able to wake-up fine. I believe Tylenol PM just uses the same medication that is in Benadryl as the sleep-aid. It's very harmless and non-addictive. I just wouldn't start taking them every night, you probably don't need the additional Tylenol in your system if you're not having pain. You may just feel a little tired, but you'll get-up fine! =)"

Possible Tylenol PM addiction.? I know, the commercial says that this is a good option for people who are not wanting to use prescription sleep aids, for fear of becoming dependent. That's not what this is about. I'm a very true insomniac, been diagnosed with depression, and bipolar, as well as anxiety, and I often get tension headaches, and migraines, and the lightest sleeper possible. Yes, I am a dangerous, and destructive package. I used to use codeine, vicodin, lunesta, and any sort of alcohol to get me to relax and to sleep at night. I'm not interested in going down that road again, I have a child. I don't have am unemployed, my husband supports us, as does Food Stamps. I don't have health insurance, I have applied, and been denied. I don't know when I'll have it again. So, the point here is to say, I take tylenol PM every night, with or without pain, to fall asleep. I think it make be taking some kind of toll on my body. I am aware of the effects it will have on my liver. Can anybody else relate? Even if you can't, but can provide advice enabling me with great ideas on how to realx at night, and fall asleep quickly, that would be welcome. Thank you for your time. What I mean is that I don't have any other options, so I take it. Not a physical addiction, but rather a mental one.

TwistedxKiss replied: "Silly question, but have you tried meditation? I have GAD and OCD and it is helpful for me sometimes. Warm baths before bedtime. Sometimes I sleep with a heating pad or hot water bottle, it's just oddly comforting and helps me settle down. Not only your liver but your stomach. Especially with anxiety problems, you are going to give yourself ulcers."

sfak4731 replied: "diphenhydramine is not addictive at all (it is a deleriant acetylcholine antagonist hallucinogen) you may as well take benadryl and spare your liver the tylenol poisoning :)"

Lynn B replied: "Let me first say I'm no Doctor. Obviously your history with drugs and alcohol have long lasting effects on your body. I wont pretend to know the seriousness or that, however, I can tell you that for a healthy person Tylenol PM is supposed to be completely safe and not addictive. I have spoke to my DR about this. My son who is 16 and has ADHD and a heart condition has taken it for a long time to help sleep. My aunt takes two every night for the last 5 yrs. She even has Cancer and still takes it. Her Doctor also said there are no dangers for her. I understand you do not have medical insurance now, but if at a later time you are covered I would highly recommend Trazadone. It is also non habit forming and works great. Sleep well!"

Jan E replied: "The main ingredients in Tylenol PM is 500 mg of pain reliever, acetaminophen, and 25 mg of Bendryl. The Benadryl is the active ingredient that can promote sleep. The pain reliever and acetaminophen can become toxic in the liver, so you really should be careful in using this over-the-counter drug. You might try the following ideas on how to relax at night: 1. Take a hot, soothing bath. Soak in the tub for a while. 2. Read before going to bed. 3. Listen to some relaxing music. I love Beethoven. 4. Drink some warm milk or eat a turkey sandwich. Both contain trytophan which promotes sleep. Good luck to you."

ROGER H replied: "At first, you may collect some infomation by inputing the relevant keywords in search engine,if you get good luck there ,then your problem is solved.nevertheless,if you could not find the ideal answer for your question by doing that, here is the resource i suggest."

parent who gave Tylenol pm to 3 year old? Is anyone else bothered by this? I can't get it out of my mind. I am frightened for that child, please help me send a message to that parent how dangerouse that is it is so lethal, i had a neighbor who lost their child because of nyquil, and dymatapp caused a nasal block to my son wich almost killed him, I can't call anyone the question about this was on here about 30 minutes ago, they asked about dosage they did not think they were giving enough, can you believe this

Tsubaki replied: "That person must be crazy you never give stuff like that to a child!!"

tabithap replied: "What are they trying to do kill the kid??? The sedatives in something like that are *way* too strong for a kid. I don't think I'd give it to anyone less than teenaged."

kmennie replied: "Would you be nervous if it was just Benadryl allergy medication and acetaminophen? That's all that stuff is. I grant that it's an _extremely_ stupid thing to do, but it's far from lethal. "How is Tylenol PM different from Benadryl® brand products? Each gelcap/geltab/caplet of Tylenol PM contains 500 mg of the pain reliever, acetaminophen, and 25 mg of the sleep aid, diphenhydramine HCl. Classified as an antihistamine with sedating properties, diphenhydramine is the same active ingredient found in many Benadryl® products." That's a huge whack of drug for a toddler, and given the 'may cause excitabilty' warnings with children's Benadryl, I have no idea what the person was trying to do. Got a link to the original post? Sure it's not a troll?"

bree680u1 replied: "hopefully the kid is fine, i am sure he or she is"

Dancin Fairy Named Tink replied: "I have never heard of this, however it is ok if it is Children's Tylenol. Also there are suggestions as to what you should do when giving Tylenol to a child under 12, usually consulting a doctor first."

nowyouknow replied: "Tylenol PM is NOT for 3 year olds! Some products like this can cause liver damage if ingested by young kids."

LAURA replied: "That is absolutely horrible and that parent should have there child taken away. i would report them if I were you."

tammy m replied: "what r they crazy. what was the reason to do it and you should call the childs dr if you know him or her. she could kill her child. if you get know where then you need to call the state. the child can get really ill and end up with liver damage. do what your heart feels and protect this child."

mommy_2_liam replied: "I sae that also...that is an adult dosage"

Toddler Mom replied: "I'm not defending this parent.. but comeon parents.. lets help the parent.. instead of GET THEM! TURN THEM IN! we all make mistakes.."

What do you do when you have to tie up 14 children in your basement? I don't know if I should use hand cuffs or rope? I think the Tylenol PM that I mixed in with their food is kicking in. Also, what is the best place to put 14 dead bodies? Does burning them work? P.S-You better have some good things under your "sources". I don't want to be working with rookies or nothing.

aimjeezy replied: "you have to go to jail"

Use Hand Sanitizer or ELSE replied: "I already have 8 tied up."

I enjoy cheese! replied: "...troll..."

xXxNotorious AdvisorxXx replied: "Get the rope, tie your very own legs. Also use the hand cuffs put them on your hands. Roll to your phone, and suffer dialing 911 with your nose. 14 dead bodies, in heaven."

Sarah replied: "haha funny! i need tips on that. i didn't know Tylenol PM would work! thanks i'll try that :) out of experience, don't bury them, someone will always find them. burn 'em, always works, great way to cover your tracks haha jk."

Noah replied: "throw the bodies in a fast flowing river"

Timmy replied: "Personally i used rope cause cuffs are overrated and rope is just better all though cuffs are easier to use but if you loose the key you have to like chop of thar hands er something. I think you should just find a good place where you can bury them like a cemetary =P but make sure there are no dogs because i dog once dug up someone i buried and i had to re bury them in a new spot...i tried buring them not a fan of it but if you like it go ahead burn em. Hope that helps!"

Shirley replied: "Are you being funny or are you a maniac. just asking."

small world replied: "they are still young, o why???"

Gnomes are sexy replied: "Ok well i got u beat at 15. So what i do is use handcuffs and rope, they can be sneaky bastardss haha. Good thing u add some Tylenol. I put them in my shed, under a huge tarp, but burning is also a good way. Id be damned if im a rookie, ive been doing this for 3 years, i AM the best"

NoteBooker replied: "Make everything sound proof and light proof you don't want anybody to look into there and find you cutting up kids. I would use handcuffs and rope. Makes them have to go through layers of crap to get out. Make sure to remove everything from there bodies and pull the teeth out and drop em in acid. Cut them into little pieces and burn/ acid bathe em. Dump all the acid into a 2 foot hole 200 miles away from your house. Make up an alibi for your being there. Another option: Leave a few bottles of chloroform in the middle and tie the kids around the sides. If the cops bust in they all drop. Get a ransom of 1.2 mil, immunity, and an airplane to a country of your choice. Bring a gun and tell them if they have cops waiting you blow the pilots brains out. It's too late for you already pal. Internets is not a good place to ask for killing advice"

david replied: "yes"

Does anyone take children's benadryl liquid for sleep? I take 4 teaspoons of it and it helps me sleep. Anyone do that, too? I like it better than Tylenol PM.

Brad S replied: "Ha, ah god if that stuff would help me I would be sleeping right now instead of up and awake, I have been having a sleeping problem for a few days now, I've been up for almost two days. But to answer your question no I don't, it doesn't even work for me."

Jessica H replied: "I sometimes take one pill of adult Benadryl and it knocks me right out."

Question about perscription cough medicine and tylenol?? My son was prescribed some cough medicine awhile ago. He has a really bad cough so I gave him some of it at about 7 pm (it is now 12:36 am) It only helped a little. However, now he feels warm and his temperature was 100.4 under the armpit. Can I give him children's tylenol after the cough medicine? The cough medicine is called Pancof and it says antitussive/decongestant/antihistamine on it.

dueinoctwith#3 replied: "Yes Tylenol is ok to be given with other meds as long as it doesn't include the same ingredients as Tylenol and most cough medicines don't."

Jenn H replied: "check on the label of medicine, as long as there is no asetometaphen (sorry about the spelling) then he can use it. Make sure the childrens tylenol isn't cold med and just a pain and fever reliever."

Shannon replied: "As long as acetaminophen is not listed as an ingredient to the cough medicine, Tylenol is okay to give. If you do not have a list of ingredients, call your pharmacist to ask if acetaminophen is in the name of the medicine you have. If he is not available, call any 24 hour pharmacy/drug store for help."

Melanie C replied: "tylenol is good, thats the first medicine they give to kids in the ER... But fever is serious... If you notice its not declining you need to take him to the hospital."

SAND_MAN replied: "DO NOT listen to anyone unless they are a Doctor!"

versantly replied: "100.4 is an elevated temp -not a fever. the cough is more worrisome. dose the child as directed and follow up with the pediatrician."

how bad is it to take tylenol every night? i am 18w pregnant with my second child and if i don't take at least 500 mg of tylenol at night i wake up with severe cramps in my left side and then i need to take 1000 mg. i am high risk and my dr doesn't seem to think anything of it but i am worried that it is not safe for my unborn baby. with my first child everything was fine, i need to know what everyone else thinks. i have been taking tylenol for about 8-10 weeks every night... i have Hodgkin's Lymphoma i don't know if that has anything to do with it... i cant take tylenol pm because i have a 15 month old i need to be able to wake up for...

lilerintron replied: "I take Tylenol every day for the headaches I get. There is nothing wrong with taking Tylenol hence why the DR's tell you that you can take it while pregnant. I think some DR's want to make sure that you don't become addicted to Tylenol PM for sleeping is all..."

angellefaith replied: "i take tylenol about everyday also ,because i get headaches often."

sleep medicine that's safe for children? I am 14 years old, and I often have a hard time sleeping. I don't want to get addicted to sleeping pills or anything, but is there anything mild like tylenol PM type of thing that will help me sleep? If not, are there any other ways that help people to sleep that can help me fall asleep?

Ryan replied: "I wouldn't say that you get addicted to sleeping medication, because the health departments have been cracking down on addicting things in over-the-counter medicine like painkillers and such, at least in the US (not sure where you live). It's more of a dependence, where you feel like you can't sleep without the pills. You could probably wean yourself off of it then, but the first few nights after you realize the dependence issues would probably be pretty difficult. Overall, I think over-the-counter sleeping pills would be relatively safe, just make sure to only take them on and off, and to not become dependent on them."

Tink replied: "The active ingredient in tylenol PM is bendryl (the antihistimine) so you can get that (benedryl) and have the sleep agent without the tylenol that you dont need. Or you could try Valerian capsules, or even sleepy time tea from celestial seasonings - at most grocers - those are all very mild sleep agents"

skybird replied: "At a young age you do not want to start relying on medication to help you sleep. I find the following do work. Dont drink pop or anything containing caffeine before going to bed. A few drops of lavender oil on your pillow can induce sleep. Try drinking a chamomile tea before going to bed, you might not like it at first but will get used to it. It helps to relax the body. It has also been said that a banana before bed will help you to sleep, contrary to the fact that bananas are supposed to lay heavy on the stomach. Dont try and sleep straight after studying as your mind is still 'ticking over'. You need to try and relax first, maybe read a book for a short while. If you have any worries (which will cause sleep problems), you need to talk about them with a parent, as just getting it off your mind can relieve the stress."

gymnastiksxdiva replied: "try reading in a dull light, that will make your eyes tired. try doing more physical exercise to tire you out, your body will want to rest. if nothing else works then consult your doctor, he will have some medication thats safe, if not then he will definatley have some advice for you! Sweet Dreams! xxx"
